What we can apply in developing team cohesion
as a coach. (^_^)
- Get to know each player and plan ways to help players to get to know each other.
- Encourage open and easy communication between players, tolerate each other, listening to others and respecting differences.
- Ensure players know their roles and responsibilities as well as those of others in the team and the contribution each of them make for team success.
- Set challenging but realistic goals which are clearly defined. The goals should be performance based ( relating to player’s abilities) not outcome based (winning).
- Develop drills and training which develop team skills as well as performance skills.
- Make each players feels that they are an important part of the team, minimize difference in status between roles, encourage players to be involved in team decisions.
- Encourage players to support each other and give positive reinforcement and be constructive rather than critical. Avoid conflict as soon as it arise.
- Encourage group identity by developing group norms, clarifying group roles, wearing club t-shirts.
- Keep changes to a minimum, encourage group stability.
